Sublimation Printing Process
The process of sublimating onto ceramic tiles involves several steps:
Step 1: Set Up Heat Press
Set your flat heat press to the appropriate temperature. Standard recommendations for ceramic tiles are 400°F (205°C) with a press time of 7 minutes (420 seconds).
Step 2: Prepare Your Design
Print your artwork in reverse onto high-quality sublimation paper using sublimation ink. Add a 5mm bleed around the printing area to ensure edge-to-edge coverage.
Step 3: Position and Secure
Place the printed transfer face-down onto the ceramic tile. Ensure it is straight and smooth. Fold the excess paper over the edges of the tiles for edge-to-edge print coverage. Use heat tape to keep your print in position.
Step 4: Press
Place the ceramic tile into the heat press facing the rubber. Close the press and wait for the recommended time. Typical settings are 200°C for 260 seconds.
Step 5: Hot Peel
When the timer goes off, remove the tile carefully as it will be hot. Perform a hot peel by removing the paper immediately to prevent ghost images.
